Our history – Over 100 years of foot expertise
Since 1910, Solidus has stood for comfortable walking and healthy feet. What once began as a small shoe manufacturer is now a Europe-wide specialist in orthopaedic comfort shoes. But our values have remained the same: quality, fit, durability – and a focus on people.
Our brand has survived world wars, fashion trends and technological revolutions. And it has continued to evolve – from a craft business to a modern manufacturer offering innovative solutions for foot health. Today, we are proud of the trust placed in us by thousands of customers, orthopaedists and specialist retailers.
The foundation
In 1910, Georg W. Martin founded Solidschuhwerk in Tuttlingen, Baden-Württemberg. In his shoe factory, he produced a wide range of hiking boots, sports shoes and slippers. Since then, the name ‘Solidus’ has stood for solid craftsmanship, durability and quality.
The beginnings
In the early years, the focus was on classic shoemaking – carefully crafted, robust and suitable for everyday use. The company was shaped by its proximity to the region and its craftsmanship, laying the foundation for a strong brand in the field of comfort shoes.
Growth & Development
Over time, Solidus grew steadily: new materials, modernised production processes and a clear focus on ergonomic design made the company one of the leading manufacturers of comfortable shoes in German-speaking countries. In the 1970s and 80s, the range was continuously expanded – including fashionable models, without losing sight of comfort.

Today, Solidus combines tradition with innovation: the shoes are developed with a wealth of expertise and state-of-the-art technology. Particular attention is paid to comfortable fits, individual widths and high-quality workmanship – often ‘Made in Europe’. The focus is on people – with their needs, their style and their desire to walk well.
