Causes & triggers
Diabetes and sore feet are unfortunately not uncommon. As part of diabetes, both large and small blood vessels can be affected. In particular, damage to the small blood vessels is a key factor in the development of a diabetic foot. Elevated blood sugar levels can cause these small vessels—which are responsible for supplying the cells—to become blocked. This reduced blood flow means the surrounding tissue receives less oxygen than it needs. Poor oxygen supply limits the tissue’s ability to regenerate, so even the smallest wounds heal very slowly.
Overall, the entire body is less resistant to bacteria and germs when you have diabetes. High blood sugar can also damage sensitive nerves. This nerve damage raises your pain threshold and reduces your ability to feel pain. As a result, a diabetic foot can quickly develop open wounds. Even unnoticed pressure points inside the shoe can trigger open, weeping sores.
Unfortunately, diabetes can also draw essential moisture out of your skin, making it much more prone to small cracks and wounds.
Shoes for diabetic foot
The primary goal of diabetic footwear is to prevent any injuries to the feet. Shoes that are too tight or too small can quickly lead to pressure points and blisters. Shoes that are too loose can also quickly rub your feet raw. How to find the right shoe. Our diabetic shoes are designed to prevent precisely these types of skin injuries. We recommend SolicareSoft for sensitive feet: they are ideal for diabetics.
The seamless finish ensures a heavenly feel without any pressure points. We surround your feet with particularly soft leather or microfibre material and an antibacterial inner lining. This means that nothing can rub, constrict or cause blisters. Our modern diabetic shoes all have an extra soft yet very stable sole with a cushioning removable footbed. If you need a specially made diabetic sole, you can easily and quickly replace it in all our shoe models.
Well-cushioned and relieved, walking will quickly become easier again and you will train your muscles. To ensure that our diabetic shoes fit every individual foot perfectly, they are available not only in half sizes, but also in different widths for narrow, medium and wider feet. You can easily find your right size in our shoe size and width guide.

What really helps?
- REGULAR EXAMINATION Examine your diabetic foot for swelling, pressure points and injuries after activities that put strain on your feet, such as hiking, long walks and even after wearing new shoes.
- DAILY CLEANING Wash your diabetic foot several times a week with lukewarm water for a maximum of three minutes and then dry it thoroughly (especially between the toes).
- CREAMING A diabetic foot should be creamed with urea-containing creams without leaving any residue.
- FILING INSTEAD OF CLIPPING If you have diabetic feet, you should only use files to shorten your toenails and completely avoid rasps, nail clippers and scissors due to the increased risk of injury.
- SEAMLESS Wear mainly cotton socks that do not have seams and change them daily.
- BAREFOOT IS TABOO If you have diabetic feet, you should avoid walking barefoot as much as possible, as this increases the risk of injury to your feet.
- AVOID HEAT Do not expose your diabetic feet to excessive heat, e.g. from electric blankets or fireplaces. You should also avoid direct sunlight as much as possible.
- THE RIGHT SHOES Only wear shoes that prevent pressure points and calluses. At the same time, they should be particularly comfortable, wide and soft – made of leather if possible.
